East region beauty crowned Miss Dominican Republic U.S.

New York, NY.- The cinnamon skin beauty Chantel Martinez, representing La Altagracia province, won the Miss Dominican Republic U.S. 2012 crown last weekend, in New York City’s Symphony Space Theater.

A distinguished panel of judges, including members of the Miss Dominican Republic Universe organization, Telemundo 47, Delta Air Lines and other celebrities chose the eastern province candidate over her competitors, who represented the regions from where their parents hail.

Martinez will now represent the Dominican community in the U.S. as a participating province in the Miss Universe Dominican Republic 2013 pageant slated for later this year in Santo Domingo.

The 18 year-old beauty lives with her parents of Dominican origin in New York, where she studies criminal law at John Jay College.

Aside from her exotic beauty, Martinez’s eloquent response in English and Spanish to the final question posed by former Miss Dominican Republic Universe Eva Arias propelled her to the lead.

The judges included Jon Wunderlich, of DREAM Project; Miss Dominican Republic Universe Commercial Director Magdalena Ureña; Telemundo 47 anchor Jorge Ramos; Women Chamber of Commerce President Quenia Abreu; prominent plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Yager; Delta Air Lines Regional manager María Fernanda Price; professional and Miss Universe Organization official photographer Fadil Berisha; international model Rosa Gough; Miss New York USA 2012 Johanna Sambucini,, and Telemundo 47 President Carlos Sánchez.
